The Italian striker, who has been in superb form this season, appears to be a prime target for Mikel Arteta’s side as they seek to increase their offensive options.
Arsenal in the hunt for Serie A striker
During Atalanta’s Champions League clash against Young Boys, Retegui delivered a statement performance, netting a brilliant brace that undoubtedly caught Arsenal’s attention.
According to reports from Calcio Mercato, the Gunners’ scouts were in attendance, closely monitoring the 25-year-old forward’s performance on the biggest stage.
Atalanta, who secured Retegui from Genoa last summer, have set a hefty €45 million price tag on the striker after his fiery start to the season.
His recent performances for club and country have elevated him to one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards, sparking a transfer race among several clubs.
Arsenal face stiff competition for Retegui
While Arsenal are keen to bring Retegui to the Premier League, they are not alone in their pursuit. Serie A giants Napoli and Juventus have also expressed interest in the Atalanta star, potentially setting up a fierce bidding war.
The Gunners, however, hold a significant financial advantage over their Italian counterparts, which could prove decisive in negotiations.
With Atalanta eager to cash in on their investment, Arsenal’s scouts may have provided the club with the green light to move swiftly in the upcoming transfer window.
Retegui has scored 14 goals in 19 appearances this season, including 12 goals in 13 Serie A games, which also helped him win the October Player of the Month award.
