The Gunners will be overjoyed to keep their star as they look to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title

Real Madrid’s hopes of signing Arsenal defender William Saliba have taken a major hit, as the French international is reportedly set on staying with the Gunners.

The young centre-back has been a key figure for Arsenal and is fully focused on helping his team challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title, putting any potential move to Madrid on hold for now.

Saliba focused on Arsenal exploits

The French defender has quickly become one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders thanks to his standout performances for Arsenal, forming a solid partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of the Gunners’ defence.

Saliba has been instrumental in their rise as serious title contenders in the past two years, and his performances have caught the eye of top clubs, including Real Madrid, who were rumoured to be interested in bringing the 22-year-old to the Bernabeu as a long-term solution for their centre-back issues.

However, according to recent reports, Saliba is fully committed to Arsenal’s project and has no intention of leaving North London anytime soon.

His current contract runs until 2027, and both the club and the player are expected to turn down any approach from Madrid next summer.

Real Madrid's defensive dilemma

With Saliba seemingly off the table, Real Madrid may have to shift their attention elsewhere in their search for defensive reinforcements.

Los Blancos had identified Saliba as a potential successor to 31-year-old German defender Antonio Rudiger, but Arsenal’s determination to keep their star defender leaves Madrid with fewer options.

While they could try again in the future, for now, they may have to explore other targets or wait for more opportune moments to bolster their backline.

Saliba’s decision to stay with the Gunners will be a huge boost for Mikel Arteta’s side, as they look to build on last season’s success and mount another serious challenge for the Premier League crown to dethrone Manchester City.
