Premier League giants Arsenal could be without one of their best players for a while after the star suffered a groin injury.

Mikel Arteta revealed that Gabriel Jesus will undergo an MRI scan to determine the severity of the groin injury that forced him out of Arsenal's 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

The Brazilian suffered the issue in training on Thursday, and Arteta is uncertain about the timeframe for his return.

"Unfortunately, on Thursday in the training session, just at the end, he felt something in his groin," Arteta explained after the game.

"We'll need to assess him. We need to have an MRI scan to see, but he wasn't available for the game. Probably tomorrow or Monday, we'll have the results to see if it's a matter of days or weeks. We don't know."

The injury's impact could extend to the transfer market, as Arsenal's plans might be affected if Jesus is out for an extended period.

Eddie Nketiah, linked to Nottingham Forest, was needed as cover for the game, and Arteta was evasive about his future.

"At the moment, Eddie is our player," he said. "He's very committed to us. Regardless of the noise, he's here and he wants to be here with us."

Arsenal take on Brighton at the Emirates next weekend and it is unlikely that Jesus will be available for that game, leading to calls for Arteta to invest in the squad.
