Arteta explains why Arsenal signed MLS All-Stars MVP Matt Turner

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is not playing around this summer having fortified the Gunners further with the addition of MLS star goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Premier League side the Arsenal has continued their onslaught in the transfer market by signing goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Turner has joined the North London side from Major League Soccer club New England Revolution, the club announced on Monday.

"Goalkeeper Matt Turner has joined us on a long-term contract from MLS side New England Revolution," the club said in a statement. 

The American International has put pen to paper on a long-term contract that sees him become Mikel Arteta's latest addition this summer.

Arsenal boss, Arteta says Turner's experience and quality shown for club and country will be invaluable for the Gunners heading into the new season.

“Matt is an experienced goalkeeper who will bring high quality to our squad. He has shown with his performances in recent years in both the MLS and at the international level with the United States that he is a goalkeeper who will give us added strength going into next season," Arteta stated, as per the club. 

Technical Director, Edu, added; 

"Matt is a goalkeeper with established qualities and experience, who will be a great addition to our squad. We identified Matt some time ago and worked hard to ensure that his transfer was complete so he could join us in time for our pre-season in July."

The goalkeeper is a 28-year-old who made his International debut for the United States of America last January. 

He has since made 18 appearances for the national team, helping them to the CONCACAF Gold Cup last year.

Turner joined England Revolution in 2016 from Jersey Express in the US Premier Development league after just one season.

He went on to play 102 times for the Revolution in the MLS and was voted as the 2020 MVP by his teammates and fans.

Last year, he was also voted as the MVP for the MLS All-Stars game after a brilliant performance that saw him save two penalties.
