Arteta gives reason for substituting Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard against Everton
Mikel Arteta has explained his decision to substitute Martin Odegaard for Arsenal during the second half of their match against Everton.
What Arteta said
He believes that success in the competition can have a positive impact on the team's overall performance.
"It brings belief, trust and positive energy. Beating someone in the semi-final and final generates that energy and creates the right path to go and do something else," Arteta told reporters on Tuesday via Reuters.
Arteta acknowledged the challenge of playing the same team twice in quick succession.
"It's always really tough. It's another layer of difficulty particularly when you play a team twice in a row," he said.
Following the League Cup quarter-final at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal will travel to Selhurst Park to face Palace in a Premier League encounter on Saturday.
