Leopards beat Ulinzi Stars 1-0 to secure third place and Ksh750,000 prize money in the Mozzart Bet Cup on Saturday.

AFC Leopards assistant coach Tom Juma has hinted at a busy transfer window after coping with a lean squad in the just-concluded season due to a transfer ban.

Speaking in the aftermath of Leopards’ 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars in the third-place playoff match staged at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday, Juma insisted that player absenteeism for various reasons affected the quality of the team at the wrong time of the season.

“We need to strengthen our squad. We have had a very lean squad. We lacked depth. We were competing very well at some point before injuries started blighting us, as well as fatigue and suspensions.”

“Only the window will help. We want to work hard on recruitment and strengthen the team.”

Meanwhile, Leopards won the game against the run of play, courtesy of a total fluke goal by Eugene Mukangula when he scored having hugged the left line after he initially appeared to cross.

Juma insists that the performance considering the circumstances was okay, but the club need to become more consistent.

“Our performance was okay. We played the way we intended,” he said. “The only mistake we made is that we failed to kill the game as quickly as possible. However, we got the win which is the most important thing,” he added.

Ingwe finished the season seventh in the league with 51 points, winning 14, drawing nine, and losing 11. Although they possessed the fifth-best defence, conceding just 25 goals, they were particularly found out moving forwards, as they scored the least of all top nine sides, scoring just 32 times.
