Aston Villa fan suffers cardiac arrest during game leading to delay against Olympiacos

Aston Villa's Europa Conference League semi-final game with Olympiacos was postponed till after halftime due to a spectator who had a heart arrest.

The English side lost their first-leg game 4-2 to Olympiacos leaving them in a tightrope ahead of the second-leg clash.

Unai Emery’s men will need to turn the ties around in the second leg to give themselves a chance to win the tournament.

Fans collapse during game

According to reports from Daily Mail, an incident happened in the stand where a fan suffered a cardiac arrest.

Emergency services raced to the site to administer care, fans were evacuated from the lowest tier of the Holte End.

Witnesses swiftly left the scene as paramedics performed their utmost to assist the person who had experienced the medical emergency.

The PA system instructed members of the home crowd to evacuate the area as quickly as possible, while both sets of players were already back in their respective dressing rooms.

An announcement was made immediately saying, “Could all supporters clear Holte Lower L2 and make sure the gangways are clear.”

Members of the emergency services held up a black screen as they tried to protect the individual from the view of thousands inside the stadium. 

While heartbroken spectators witnessed the horrific events below ground, an ambulance was promptly prepared to transport the fan to the hospital.

Applause from supporters of both sides was heard as they were eventually brought out to the ambulance.

The players from Villa and Olympiacos nervously waited inside the tunnel before emerging, causing the second half to start a few minutes later than expected.
