Aston Villa pay over 100 billion Naira to sign Onana

With Champions League commitment coming up, Aston Villa have added the 22-year-old to their squad.

After finishing in the top four last season, Aston Villa have signed Belgian international Amadou Onana from Everton.

The deal, confirmed by renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano, sees the Midlands club pay an initial fee of over 100 billion Naira (£50) million, with potential add-ons and a sell-on clause included.

Aston Villa made the move for Amadou Onana after losing Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz to Italian giants Juventus.

"Official, confirmed. Aston Villa have signed AmadouOnana as a new midfielder from Everton. Deal signed for £50m fee plus add-ons and sell-on clause, while Onana has signed long-term contract," Fabrizio announced on X.

Onana signs long-term contract with Villa

The 22-year-old has penned a long-term contract with Villa. In a club statement, Aston Villa expressed their delight at securing Onana's services.

“Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Amadou Onana from Everton,” the statement read.

The club highlighted the midfielder's strengths, stating: “Onana is a deep-lying midfielder who excels at breaking up play and winning back possession. The 22-year-old also brings significant international experience to the club, having represented Belgium at UEFA Euro 2024.”

Before his move to Everton, Onana honed his craft at Hamburger SV in Germany and LOSC Lille in France. At Everton, he quickly established himself as a key player, making over 70 appearances and scoring three goals in his final season.

Onana's arrival is expected to strengthen Villa's midfield as they aim to build on their recent progress under manager Unai Emery.
