Ancelotti learning from the past
The October drubbing in LaLiga was a wake-up call for Los Blancos, but head coach Carlo Ancelotti insists his team has analysed their mistakes and are prepared for revenge.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, the Italian coach acknowledged the importance of the situation, saying, “We have to think about what happened in the first game because they beat us.
“We’ve made a pretty clear assessment, so we’ll have to repeat the good things we did and avoid the mistakes. A Clasico is always a Clasico, but a final puts a bit more pressure on you.”
Real Madrid have since bounced back, riding a five-match winning streak, including a dominant 3-0 semifinal victory over Mallorca to reach the Super Cup final.
Real Madrid hoping to good luck from Cup final
Real Madrid boss Ancelotti also sees he Spanish Super Cup as more than a trophy, hoping the trophy can become a good luck charm for Los Blancos.
Speakng ahead of the final, the Italian gaffer said, “When we haven’t won it, it hasn’t gone well. It’s a competition that gives you a lot more motivation.”
Ancelotti also anticipates a close encounter against the Catalan giants, saying, “Barcelona are a historic rival, and the matches are always very competitive. It’s difficult for us and for them. The result of the match cannot be predicted.”
As Real Madrid step onto the field on Sunday, they’ll be hoping to exact revenge on Barcelona and lift the first trophy of the 2024/25 season.
