Four Gor Mahia players, including Austin Odhiambo, have earned Harambee Stars call ups for their AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Four Gor Mahia players have received a call up to the Harambee Stars squad for their upcoming qualifying matches against Zimbabwe and Namibia for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Austin Odhiambo, Sylvester Owino, Alphonce Omija and Rooney Onyango have been drafted by Kenya coach Engin Firat as he seeks to get his team off to a good start in qualifying.
All four played a crucial role during Emerging Stars’ COSAFA Cup campaign in South Africa last June, with Odhiambo making three goal contributions as they narrowly missed out on the semi-finals on goal difference.

Why Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat is rooting for exporting more young Kenyan players abroad
Firat handed Ouma his debut at 17 when he was at Nairobi City Stars, and the talented youngster is now on the verge of helping Elfsborg qualify for the 2024/2025 Europa League group stage.
Omija will be hoping he can build on from his solid debut against Ivory Coast during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Malawi last June. Onyango has firmly cemented himself as the side’s starting right winger, while Owino, who had a solid campaign at the COSAFA Cup, will be hoping he can make the final squad, having not earned a call up since March 2023.
Meanwhile, Benson Omala, now of Al Safa FC, has also received a call up to the side amidst the transfer saga that has engulfed him over the last couple of days, with reports emerging that he has not even officially signed for the Lebanese side despite playing in and scoring in a friendly match against them.
Meanwhile, left back Geoffrey Ochieng and midfielder Alpha Onyango, who have been part of Firat’s previous squads, have been overlooked, and will have to really impress over the next couple of weeks in order to earn call ups in October.
There are also two AFC Leopards players who have been drafted into the team, namely Kayci Odhiambo and Victor Omune, who was recently named player of the year during the club’s inaugural end-of-the-season gala awards..
