Spain and Manchester City's defensive midfielder Rodri is expected to miss the rest of the season after his injury against Arsenal.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri will reportedly miss the rest of the season after suffering an injury in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

The 28-year-old is one of the most important players in the Cityzen’s ranks, as they did not suffer a single defeat in the league last season in any game the Spanish international featured.

While they have started this season well without him, as he was given an extended break by Pep Guardiola following his triumphant summer with Spain at the European Championships, he was immediately reinstated in the starting role at the base of midfield in their clash against Arsenal this past weekend.

Rodri's injury

The Spanish international had a bright start to the match, and his quality and importance to City’s set-up were immediately evident as they raced to a 1-0 lead.

However, the former Atletico Madrid midfielder only lasted 21 minutes as he went down clutching his knees after minimal contact. He was subsequently substituted for Mateo Kovacic, and Manchester City went on to struggle for the rest of the match, conceding twice and requiring a late equaliser to snatch a point.

Reports from Darioas today claim exploratory tests have been done and the Spaniard was found to have ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and had been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

It remains to be seen how they will cope with his loss. Pulse Sports reported that Manchester City were prepared to arm Pep Guardiola with a €100 million war chest this summer should he need it. Rodri's injury could compel such a necessity.
