Ademola Lookman: A 2023/24 campaign to remember
The former Everton striker made a significant advancement in his career last season for club and country.
Lookman made his Super Eagles debut in 2022, but he never managed to look his brilliant best, not only at the African Cup of Nations. He scored three goals for the Super Eagles—no player had more—in their run to a silver medal in the tournament.
He carried his form back to his club side, and he finished the season on a high for Atalanta. His most important contribution came in the Europa League final when he scored a sensational hat-trick to help La Dea beat Bayer Leverkusen and win their first trophy in 63 years.
In total, he scored 22 goals across the period in view (17 for Atalanta, 5 for Nigeria) and provided 11 assists. Lookman is the only African in the 30-man shortlist, which strengthens his claim for CAF player of the year.
