Calvin Bassey made his Premier League debut for Fulham, but it was a day to forget for the Nigerian defender.

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey had a baptism of fire in his first Premier League game Fulham suffered a 3-0 defeat in their clash against Brentford at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.

Bassey joined Fulham on a five-year deal from Ajax this summer for just €22.50m. The Super Eagles defender signed for the Dutch giants from Rangers last summer before leaving for Fulham this year.

Bassey fails to spark in Fulham's defeat to Brentford

Bassey did not feature in Fulham’s first league game of the season last weekend, a 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

The former Rangers man, however, made his bow in the clash against Fulham, but it was a debut to forget for him.

Bassey came on in the second half for Harrison Reed after Tim Ream had been sent off for a second bookable offence.

However, he could not help Fulham avoid a 3-0 defeat at home. The Nigerian defender had just 22 touches during his time on the pitch, making two clearances in the process.

Brentford silence Fulham

Fulham came into the match fresh from their 1-0 win over Everton, while Brentford played out a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in their opener.

Marco Silva’s men did start well, but it was Brentford that went into the break with the lead, courtesy of a goal from Yoane Wissa.

The Cottagers started the second half looking for the equaliser, but their quest was made more difficult after Tim Ream received a second yellow card.

Ream’s dismissal ended Fulham’s hopes of a comeback as a brace from Bryan Mbeumo sealed a comfortable win for the away side.

Fulham will hope to bounce back when they take on Arsenal in their next Premier League clash.
