Kenya Police FC head coach Francis Baraza has explained how the presence of his players’ family members gave them extra motivation to win Wednesday’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) clash against Sofapaka.

Police beat Sofapaka 3-0 courtesy of goals from Clinton Kinanga, Marvin Nambwire and Francis Kahata to make it four games without defeat and dislodge KCB from fourth place on the 18-team log.

The Law Enforcers were made to sweat for their win, capitalising on two mistakes from Batoto ba Mungu, but Baraza feels that would have perhaps not been possible were it not for the desire not to want to disappoint members of their families who were in the stands.

“Our sponsors Betika brought the players’ parents to the stadium which motivated the players. Also, their children were there which was a surprise to them,” said Baraza.

“Sofapaka played well but we surprised them with two quick goals. They are a good team.”

Police withstood an early scare when Sofapaka's Ben Stanley Omondi called goalkeeper Job Ochieng into action before a mistake in the eighth minute saw Nabwire capitalise and Kahata would double the advantage in the 17th minute for his second goal of the season.

The loss left Sofapaka coach David Ouma feeling hard done by given his players’ gallant display.

“I conceded from the first attack of Police but you could see the ball hit my striker first. We conceded from their two chances which is unfortunate because we did not mark well in the box,” Ouma said.

Police are now fourth, level on 53 points with fifth-placed KCB, but with a superior goal difference, and four adrift of third-placed Nzoia Sugar.

Sofapaka, meanwhile, slipped to 12th on the log, having won just two of their last nine league matches.

Baraza will also be delighted by his team’s attack which keeps scoring goals even when not playing well having netted 46 so far this season, the highest in the division.
