Barcelona seem certain that they can hold on to their prodigious youngster despite links to a Premier League move
Barcelona are adamant that 18-year-old sensation Pablo "Gavi" Gavira Paez will remain at the club despite Premier League interest in the midfielder.
Gavi is a treasured gem at Barcelona and the youngster is already trusted with a starting berth in the team despite his age as the club believes that he could be an era-defining player in the near future.
Gavi attracting interest from Chelsea due to strained contract situation
Gavi’s continuity with the club has come under increased scrutiny, especially as Barcelona’s financial troubles stopped them from ratifying an already agreed contract extension with the diminutive midfielder.
Barcelona had won a court case forcing LaLiga to uphold Gavi’s agreed contract extension, but the league body appealed the decision favourably and had Gavi’s registration as a first-team player rescinded as his new contract at the club was deemed null and void.
Gavi’s current contract recognised by LaLiga runs out in the summer of 2023, and this has opened the door for a potential free transfer for the midfielder to another club, with English giants circling the situation, hoping for a breakthrough for them.
Barcelona confident of keeping Gavi
However, Barcelona Director, Mateu Alemany has suggested that n such thing will happen as the club are confident of registering Gavi in the nearest future.
Speaking to DAZN, Alemany said, “We are going to register Gavi for sure. There is no problem, it will be done and completed soon.”
Alemany also referenced Gavi’s already agreed contract with the club that only requires ratification from LaLiga as one of the reasons he is confident that Gavi will continue in Catalonia for many years to come.
He said, “Gavi renewed in his day for four seasons, he is fulfilling the first and he has three more seasons with us. He will fulfil them for sure.

“We are convinced not only that he will fulfil them, but by what he thinks, what our fans want and what we want him, he will finish his career at Barcelona.”
Gavi has been a revelation since joining Barcelona, and is highly-rated in the club’s circles with the midfielder expected to have a very bright future.
