Hat-trick hero Lewandowski fires Barcelona past Alaves to move clear of Real Madrid
The Flick machine rages on as Barcelona thump Alaves to go three points clear at the top of LALIGA.
What happened
Barcelona's financial problems have forced them to chase bargains in the market. Given Lewandowski's advanced age and Vitor Roque’s failure to establish himself, they are reportedly in the market for a low-cost striker option.
According to Spanish publication Dario Sport, the 27-time LALIGA champions have underlined the Canada international as the ideal option to fill that role.
The 24-year-old has been one of the best strikers in Ligue 1 since joining from Belgian Pro League side Gent. He is expected to leave next summer, however, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
He is on the market list for a number of Premier League clubs, and the Blaugrana are believed to be ready to compete with them for his signature, as they have prioritised his acquisition.
Meanwhile, the Blaugrana recently had to scour the free agent market as an emergency measure to replace the injured Marc Andre Ter Stegen.
They signed former Arsenal man Wojciech Szczesny, who retired some weeks ago at Juventus. According to Spanish sources, the club are satisfied with his fitness levels and he could make his debut soon.
