LALIGA leaders Barcelona are reportedly monitoring Rafael Leao's situation at AC Milan.

Barcelona are reportedly attentive to Rafael Leao’s situation at AC Milan and could make a move for the Portugal international if the winger's relationship with current coach Paulo Fonseca worsens.

What Happened

Leao has been Rossoneri’s star player since he was signed from Lille in 2019. He led the Serie A Giants to the Scudetto in the 2021/22 season, their first in 11 years, and last year, rejecting a host of suitors, he committed his future to Milan until at least 2028.

The 25-year-old has had a slow start to the season, and manager Paulo Fonseca has already benched him three times in only nine league games this season.

Leao is growing increasingly frustrated with his level of participation, according to reports, and tensions are starting to develop between him and the manager.

Fonseca has played down such a notion, explaining that he is managing minutes, but his explanation has done nothing to dispel clubs who are sniffing around for an opening.

Barcelona paying attention

The Blaugrana’s main transfer agenda last summer was the signing of a top left winger. Rafael Leao sat at the top of the shopping list, but his price and unwillingness to leave Milan meant they pivoted to chasing Nico Williams.

They failed to land the Athletic Club star as well, and while Raphinha has proved a capable left-winger despite being naturally a right winger, the Blaugrana are still keen on bringing in a specialist.

According to GFNI, Barcelona are following the development of the situation in Italy, and while their financial situation rules them out of any sort of deal in the winter or summer, they remain attentive to any sort of opening.
