Barcelona might be willing to let Franck Kessie leave to Inter, but only if they get Marcelo Brozovic in return
Supercopa de Espana champions Barcelona are believed to have offered Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie to Inter in a swap deal that will see Croatian midfielder, Marcelo Brozovic head to Camp Nou.
Barcelona want Brozovic in any deal for Kessie
Inter are thought to be huge admirers of Kessie and have been looking for solutions that will see the 26-year-old midfielder turn out for the Nerazzurri.
Inter have already explored a loan option for Kessie but were rebuffed as Barcelona were unwilling to pay any part of the Ivorian’s salary while he was at Inter.
Instead, the Catalan giants have offered Inter a chance to get their wish, but only in exchange for Marcelo Brozovic, who Barcelona see as a direct replacement for legend Sergio Busquets should he decide to go through with his plans of ending his Barcelona career at the end of his current contract in the summer of 2023.
Kessie’s Camp Nou struggles
Kessie was touted as a potential replacement for Busquets or Frenkie de Jong when he initially joined Barcelona on a free transfer in July 2022, but things have not gone according to plan for Kessie in Catalonia.
Mostly a peripheral figure, Kessie has struggled to establish himself at Barcelona and has consistently played second fiddle in the club’s packed midfield that also has the enigmatic talents of Pedri and Gavi alongside the aforementioned de Jong and Busquets.
Kessie has made only two starts in La Liga and only six starts in all competitions for Barcelona, leading to feelings of underappreciation and a hankering for a return to Italy for more consistent game time.
A move to Inter would suit Kessie and a move to Barcelona would suit Brozovic, but the deal would appear not financially viable for Inter who would have hoped to secure some financial remuneration for the signature of one of their best midfielders currently.
