What happened
Frenkie de Jong’s current deal with Barcelona expires in 2026, and according to Dario Sport, Barcelona withdrew their last proposal for renewal to De Jong after the Netherlands international failed to respond.
His contract situation, his current injury situation, and poor form have informed Barcelona's decision, as they are now said to be moving to sell the former Ajax midfielder.
According to Ramon Salmurri, a journalist for Catalunya Radio, Barcelona are prepared to accept a fee in the region of €20 million for the midfielder, €66 million less than they paid for him in 2019.
Meanwhile, Joshua Kimmich, who previously played under Barcelona's current coach, Hansi Flick, is an ideal replacement for Frenkie de Jong.
In a recent interview he left his future open, suggesting an exit from Bayern Munich, as he stated that he will make a decision on his next move in January.
