What happened
For more than a year, Barcelona have been away from the historic Camp Nou, which is undergoing wholesale renovation and modernisation; hence, they have had to play their home games in the City of Barcelona's Olympic Stadium at Montjuic—Estadi Lluis Companys.
By initial projection, the Blaugrana were expected to return to Camp Nou at some capacity at this point in the year; however, it is now certain the ground will not be ready until well into next year.
According to Marca, because the city council have made other commitments for midweek during the period Barcelona will be in the knockout phase of the UCL, they will be unable to play European games there.
Should Barcelona finish in the top eight, they have until February 21 to name a new stadium. Otherwise, they will have until January 29, the date of the playoff draws.
The Barcelona hierarchy are said to be working hard on solutions and have identified Valencia’s Mestalla and Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano as possible temporary homes.
