With Marc-André ter Stegen set to miss the rest of the season through injury, Barcelona are in dire need of adequate goalkeeping cover and are looking at bringing an experienced one.

Experienced Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is reportedly reconsidering his retirement plans after receiving interest from Barcelona.

Szczesny had planned to hang up his gloves after leaving Juventus last season. However, the prospect of joining a club like Barcelona seems to have piqued his interest, with the club looking to bring in the veteran goalkeeper until the end of the season.

Advanced negotiations underway

According to reports, Szczesny and Barcelona are already in advanced talks to finalise a deal for the current season. Both parties are working diligently to iron out the remaining details and reach an agreement as soon as possible.

However, a key factor in these discussions is ensuring that the deal aligns with Barcelona’s financial constraints. The club is reportedly offering Szczesny a gross salary of around €3 million until June, with potential performance-based bonuses.

If a deal can be finalised, Szczesny’s return to professional football would provide a much-needed solution to Barcelona’s goalkeeping dilemma.

His experience and ability could prove invaluable as the club aims to navigate the remainder of the season with ter Stegen sidelined.

“I just hope that Marc recovers soon. He is a good friend and a great goalkeeper, and I wish him the best. That’s the only thing I can comment on,” said the Polish keeper after Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo contacted him to find out if the rumours are true.
