The latest reports surrounding Lionel Messi indicate that the legendary Argentine footballer could be set for a return to his old stomping ground.
Lionel Messi will be a free agent in June as he has failed to sign an extension at PSG. That could change in the coming weeks but so far, nothing has been signed.
Could Messi return to Barcelona?
There is no sign that Messi is unhappy in France and he has indeed spoken of his satisfaction at living in the country, as well as his family being settled in Paris. However, it is a bit concerning that he is yet to extend.
Realistically, there are only a few clubs in world football that could even begin to consider the possibility of taking on Messi's wages, and considering their recent financial issues, Barcelona are not one of those clubs.
Regardless of that, Spanish transfer experts Gerard Romero and Joan Fontes have reported that Messi’s entourage are working on a deal to bring the player home to Camp Nou.
While it is unlikely at this moment, anything is possible in football and Messi's love for Barcelona is well-documented. The World Cup winner may yet be willing to give it one last shot before calling it a day.
