Barcelona youngster suffers tournament-ending injury in Germany clash

Spain lose a crucial player to injury in their European Championship quarter-final clash against Germany.

Barcelona’s Pedri has been ruled out of the rest of the European Championships should Spain advance past Germany after sustaining an injury in the quarter-final clash against Die Mannschaft. 

Pedri's injury problems

Pedri, 21, has had an injury-ridden career since the last European Championships, in which he won the Young Player of the Tournament. 

He only managed 16 starts for Barcelona last campaign, as he spent a chunk of the season in the infirmary. However, he made it in time for the European Championships, much to the delight of Spain's manager, Luis De La Fuente. 

The La Roja boss immediately slotted Pedri into his team, and the Barcelona star has been an integral part of their journey to the competition's quarter-finals.

Pedri’s heartbreaking injury 

The former Las Palmas midfielder was named from the start against the hosts, playing in the number 10 position.

La Roja enjoyed an early wave of attack, prompting a frustrated Germany to react with aggressive tackles. Pedri was a victim of this harsh treatment. 

He had to be substituted as early as the eighth minute of the game for Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, after bearing the brunt of two crunching tackles. 

Moments after the incident, the RFEF confirmed that Pedri sustained an internal lateral sparing to his left knee. Tests will follow to ascertain the severity of his injury, but he
