Emmanuel Amuneke has lost back-to-back matches in the Football League after losing out to former Super Eagles boss Finidi George again.

Former Barcelona star Emmanuel Amuneke's challenging start to the NPFL season continued as his Heartland FC suffered a second consecutive 3-1 defeat, this time at the hands of Rivers United, managed by his recent rival for the Super Eagles coaching position, Finidi George.

The match, played on Saturday, saw Rivers United, also known as the Pride of Rivers, dominate proceedings, particularly in the second half.

Tunde Olaniyi opened the scoring early for the home side, but Heartland's Christian Molokwu managed to level the score just before halftime, giving the visitors hope.

However, the second half belonged to Rivers United, with Kabir Abdullahi emerging as the hero of the day for the hosts.

Abdullahi netted a crucial brace, scoring in the 68th minute to restore Rivers United's lead and then sealing the victory with another goal in stoppage time.

This result marks a continuation of Amuneke's recent struggles, both on and off the pitch. Earlier this year, he lost out to Finidi George in the race for the Super Eagles head coach position, and now finds himself on the wrong end of the scoreline against George's team.

The defeat is particularly bitter as it comes on the heels of Heartland's opening day loss to Enyimba, leaving Amuneke's side without a point after two matches.

Defensively, Amuneke's team has shown significant vulnerabilities, conceding six goals in just two games.

This leaky defense will undoubtedly be a major concern for the former African Footballer of the Year as he seeks to turn Heartland's fortunes around.

For Finidi George, the victory serves as further validation of his coaching credentials, following his appointment as Super Eagles coach and eventually woes.

His Rivers United team displayed tactical discipline and offensive prowess, particularly in the second half.

Amuneke now faces the challenge of rallying his troops and addressing the defensive issues that have plagued Heartland in their opening fixtures.

Meanwhile, Finidi George and Rivers United will look to build on this impressive performance as they set their sights on challenging for the league title.
