The Cameroonian goalkeeper promised to take a lot of risks in goal for Manchester United next season
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has boldly announced his intention to take even more risks as the Red Devil’s goalkeeper this season, telling fans to be ready to watch his daredevil antics during the 2024/25 season.
Onana promises Manchester United fans season of risks
The Cameroon international, known for his adventurous style of play, was brought in from Inter last summer primarily for his ability to pass out from the back and move off his line, sometimes venturing outside his penalty box.
While his early days at Manchester United were rocky, including conceding a goal from the halfway line on his home debut against Lens.
He went on to play in all but one of Manchester United’s 54 games in all competitions, helping the Red Devils in an FA Cup victory against Manchester City at Wembley.
As he approaches his second campaign, Onana is confident and ready to embrace his role fully. Speaking to reporters ahead of the season, the Cameroonian goalkeeper said, "I think it’s what you’re going to see this season because I will take a lot of risks. I can tell you in advance already! Be prepared because it’s going be like that this season, trust me! I will enjoy it even more when this season starts."
Onana looks ahead to new season
Onana's confidence is evident as he prepares for the new season, where he will again be a crucial part of The Red Devil's quest to improve on their eighth-place finish in the Premier League.
The FA Cup victory over Manchester City provided a much-needed boost for manager Erik ten Hag, who barely clung to his job, but Onana has stated that the club must aim higher.
Speaking about Manchester United’s plans for the 2024/25 season, Onana said, "The best team in the world takes risks.
“Building from the back, recognising things, situations, when the opponent jumps one against one or when they press with three or with four. So for me, it’s important to recognise those kinds of things and make the best decision for the team. I will take a lot of responsibility, and I think my back is huge to carry it all, no? I think it’s going be nice this season."
The reigning FA Cup champions will play in the Community Shield against Manchester City on the 11th of August, before beginning their Premier League campaign against Fulham six days later.
