Nigeria's Super Eagles have gotten a bounty put out against them ahead of their clash against Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s national team has been handed an extra incentive ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

According to reports, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged a massive $150,000 bonus if they manage to stun the Super Eagles.

Zimbabwe’s Government piles on the incentive

With Zimbabwe sitting at the bottom of Group C, the stakes couldn’t be higher for the Warriors. Despite struggling through the qualifiers with just three points from five matches, the team has been handed an extra boost from the country's leadership.

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Nqobile Magwizi has alleged noted that Mnangagwa’s government will give the team a $150,000 bonus if the Warriors can beat Nigeria in Uyo.

According to the reports, if Zimbabwe had beaten Benin in their previous match, the squad, including players, coaches, and support staff would also have secured a $150,000 payout.

However, after drawing 2-2 against Benin, the focus has now shifted to Nigeria with the Zimbabwean government offering a similar amount, hoping to fire up the team ahead of their clash against the Super Eagles.

Super Eagles fighting to get back on track

The Super Eagles have endured a shaky start to their qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup scheduled to be held just over a year ago.

Victor Osimhen returned to the Super Eagles with a bang.

Before their 2-0 victory over Rwanda last week, Nigeria had gone four consecutive matches without a win, dropping points against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Benin.

Despite their struggles, the win over Rwanda has given the Super Eagles a fighting chance to get back into contention.

They now sit fourth in the group but remain within touching distance of leaders South Africa, setting up a crucial showdown against Zimbabwe.

With Nigeria’s road to the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup far from smooth, a win in Uyo is non-negotiable. But with Zimbabwe’s squad now financially motivated, the Super Eagles must be wary of an opponent eager to cash in on a historic upset.
