The Belgian FA released a statement apologising to Kylian Mbappe after a problematic video surfaced on the internet.

The Belgian football association sent out an apology to France captain Kylian Mbappe after midfielder Amadou Onana was seen in a video singing about hurting the PSG forward physically.

Belgium are set to play France in the round of 16 of the European Championships on Monday, July 1.

What happened

Ahead of the match, Everton midfielder Onana, in a video with Belgian-based comedian content creator Pablo Andres, was singing about Mbappe.

According to Goal, the comedian sang, "Who will tackle Mbappe in the shin?" and in return, the 22-year-old replied, "Onana, Amadou Onana!"

The video was heavily criticised, leading the Belgian Football Association to apologise on behalf of their employees and take down the video from social media.

"It was not the intention to attack anyone. We have been working with comedian Pablo Andres for a long time, this video also had to be funny,” Belgium’s press officer Stefan Van Loock said.

"But we misjudged that and also took the video offline. We would like to apologise to anyone we may have offended with this. For us, this is the end of the matter."

Meanwhile, Onana has been linked with a move away from the Toffees this season, with several top clubs interested in his unique profile.
