Wayne Rooney suffered his fourth defeat in five games as Birmingham City manager in a 3-1 loss to Sunderland inspired by Bellingham.

Sunderland eased to a comfortable 3-1 win at home to Birmingham City in the English Championship clash to rise up into the promotion playoff places.

The result was Birmingham's fourth in the last five games, a poor run of form which also coincided with the appointment of manager Wayne Rooney.

The former football superstar remains winless in his five games in charge of Birmingham City with the club dropping from fifth to 15 on the Championship table within the period in consideration.

Jobe Bellingham back among the goals

Jobe Bellingham is more famous for his elder brother Jude's exploits at Real Madrid but the 18-year-old continues to make a name for himself at Sunderland.

The attacking midfielder tapped in his third goal of the season after Rusyn’s flick-on at the front post from a corner kick to give Sunderland the lead in the 17th minute and punish his former club.

Birmingham equalised in the 30th minute when Stansfield’s driven ball into the box was poked home with a super finish by Koji Miyoshi.

But that relief proved only temporal for Wayne Rooney as his own player Dion Sanderson scored an own goal in the 57th minute to give Sunderland back the lead.

Adil Aouchiche put the final nail in the Birmingham City coffin with a 76th-minute goal just two minutes after coming off the bench to seal the win and send Sunderland up to sixth on the log.
