Ndung’u has scored one goal in five appearances for Bidco this season, but still believes he can win the FKFPL Golden Boot award.

Bidco United striker Samwel Ndung’u is still optimistic that he can win the golden boot this season despite scoring one goal in five league appearances for the Thika-based outfit this season.

Ndung’u’s solitary strike came against Nairobi City Stars at the beginning of September as he helped the side salvage a point against Simba wa Nairobi at the Kasarani Annex.

He has been leading the line for the Amos Akhulia-coached side since the departure of Chris Ochieng to Gor Mahia after spending a little over five weeks at the club, and has been getting into promising positions to score goals.

Speaking to Pulse Sports, Ndung'u, who revealed an ambitious plot to win the golden boot award this season after helping his side win the Elite Pre-season camp, believes he still has time to make things right with 29 games of the league season left to play.

“I still have my target which is to become the top scorer because it is not gone and I believe there are still very many games to play,” Ndung’u said.

“I will keep pushing myself because the more we are playing, the less games remaining to add to my tally so I have to work hard to achieve my targets.”

Ndung’u appreciates Akhulia for giving him the confidence he needs to express himself on the pitch, having given him a run of games to prove his worth.

“I appreciate the coach for giving me time because it gives  you confidence as a player. I believe that if I managed to get a few minutes and still managed to score the goals that I did last season, this season I should work hard to score more goals than last season.”

Meanwhile, the lanky striker says that Bidco remain undeterred despite suffering their first loss of the season to his former employers Kenya Police.

“We have not lost our focus yet,” Ndung’u said. “It is only the fourth league game and we had not lost any game until the game against Police,” he added.

“I believe the games that are coming next will make us ready for anything ‘cause we have to redeem ourselves from the loss.

“Right now, Police is a big team. When I was here, it was a big team and I knew that it was not going to be easy playing against them.”

Bidco will face Bandari in their sixth league game of the season, which will give Ndung’u a chance to add to his solitary goal if he is to achieve his targets.
