FKFPL Bidco United close to guaranteed survival after demolishing Mathare United

Festus Chuma 14:54 - 07.05.2023

The loss leaves Slum Boys stagnant at position 16 on the standings with just 22 points after 28 games.

Mathare United failed to move out of the relegation zone following a disappointing 3-0 loss to Bidco United in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match at Kasarani Annex on Sunday afternoon.

Bidco were looking to return to winning ways after a 2-0 loss to Kenya Police away in their previous league game in midweek.

Alex Keke and Ezekiel Okare were recalled to the starting line-up as coach Antony Akhulia made two changes to the team which faced Kenya Police.

The sides took time to settle in the game but Bidco showed more attacking intent with Samuel Ndungu having a chance on 20 minutes with a volley unmarked in the box but he dragged wide.

Mathare soaked up pressure and were coming out of their defensive shape after the half an hour mark but they could not progress in the last third with lone striker Elijah Mwanzia isolated at the top.

The Slum Boys had their first real chance of the game in the 27th minute which fell to Cutis Wekesa, but his deflected shot was easily gathered by goalkeeper Lucas Indeche.

Mathare were still finding it difficult to contain the visitors' quick front three David Gateri, Ezekiel Okare, Samuel Ndungu, who were playing with confidence.

Bidco looked dangerous on the wing and they broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Samuel Ndungu netted after Peter Nzuki had delivered a great cross.

Lucas Indeche produced a fine low save and former AFC Leopards goalkeeper denied Daniel Otieno and the first half ended with Bidco leading 1-0 against Mathare.

Mathare were the better side after the restart as the 2008 league champions looked to find an equalizer with Brian Wekesa working tirelessly for the hosts.

On the hour mark Otieno was at it again when he met a pin-point cross into the box, but his header was inches over the target.

The Slum Boys had their second real threat on goal in the second half only came in the 67th minute when Ronald Sichenje found space 20 yards out, but the keeper brilliantly saved his effort.

But the second goal would come in the 75th minute when Ndungu atone for his earlier miss by controlling Thomas Wainaina's excellent ball and keeping his composure to finish.

Batts Awita placed the game into bed with five minutes remaining to the end of the match when he connected David Gateri cross to the back of the net.

Mathare belatedly found some attacking impetus in search of a consolation and actually had the ball in the net in stoppage time from a corner, only to have the goal chalked off for an earlier infringement.
