The Opens will cue off on Friday around the country with zonal qualifiers in the 52 districts.

Gumusiriza, who won the 2012 title and finished second three years later, has assured his fans that he is in shape to handle the stick this year.

Being outside the top eight best-ranked players, Black Sheep will have to go through the playoffs.

“I’m not in the top seeds but I can assure my fans that I will be at Lugogo and perform to the expectations,” Black Sheep bleated.

“I’ve got an arena in Mukono where I train daily for the Open and the league that is coming up, so be ready for me,” he added.

The winners from the preliminary qualifiers will advance to the regionals, where a total of 120 players will qualify for the nationals.

The 120 players will be joined by the eight top-seeded players in the country.
