Masud Juma now joins Michael Olunga on the treatment table which has dealt Harambee Stars a big blow ahead of the March international window.

Harambee Stars have been dealt a huge blow as star forward Masud Juma is set to undergo an extended period on the sidelines after suffering a nasty achilles tendon injury.

Juma is set to go under the knife to correct the unfortunate setback he suffered on his left ankle recently, as he posted an update of himself seated in a wheelchair with his leg heavily bandaged on his Instagram page.

“I've suffered from achilles tendon rupture and I will undergo surgery,” Juma captioned.

The news surely hurt Engin Firat, as the Turkish head coach had been relying on him to create one-on-one situations from the flanks and also get on the end of chances whenever possible to complement captain Michael Olunga, who himself is also stepping up his recovery from a hamstring problem.

Since 2023, Firat has given three younger strikers their debuts. Gor Mahia’s Benson Omala, Kakamega Homeboyz’ Moses Shummah, and Norway-based Alfred Scrivren have all been given chances to show what they can do, and there is now a chance both might be needed to take more responsibility especially if Olunga does not recover in time.

The gaffer will also be using Juma’s setback to give other players a chance to show what they can do, such as St.Mirren forward Jonah Ayunga who already declared that he would like to represent Harambee Stars.

Juma has scored in each of his last three outings for Harambee Stars against Russia, Gabon, and Seychelles respectively.

It is estimated that he could be out for six to eight months considering achilles tendon ruptures usually take around the stated time frame.

He and Olunga might however recover in time as Harambee Stars' next competitive clash is slated against Burundi and Côte d'Ivoire in early June.
