FOOTBALL Blow to Rising Starlets as captain Jane Hato set to sit out Cameroon double header

Captain Jane Hato along with seven other Rising Starlets players will miss the Cameroon match challenging the team's prospects for the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualification.

Kenya U20 Women's National team Rising Starlets will be without their star player and captain Jane Hato  as they prepare for their crucial qualification match against Cameroon.

Fresh off their staggering 10-1 victory over Angola, the Rising Starlets now have their gaze firmly fixed on Cameroon.

The first leg will see the Starlets competing away, in Yaounde's Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 7 p.m.

The return match promises to be an electrifying event, slated to take place on home turf on Friday, November 17, 2023.

In preparation for this pivotal encounter, Coach Beldine Odemba has summoned a provisional squad of 35 players, who will commence their training camp from Friday, November 3, 2023.

But it is not all smooth sailing for the Starlets as eight key players, including Captain Jane Hato, will be missing in action due to their KCSE exams.

“We’ll miss 8 players in this round as they will sit for their KCSE exams, including our Captain Jane Hato. While their absence does pose a challenge, it’s an opportunity for eight new talents to shine,” she said.

‘This new blood will hopefully integrate seamlessly with the team, and we’ll have a fresh face stepping into the captain’s role. We’ll work hard to overcome this hurdle in the upcoming round and hopefully, in the next round, we will emerge with a stronger, more resilient team.”

The team that triumphs on aggregate will face the winners of the fourth and final round, which will be between Congo and Egypt.

For the Rising Starlets, a win in fourth round would mean securing a coveted spot in the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, set to be held in Colombia.

While the absence of Captain Hato and seven other key players might seem like a setback, it could also be a blessing in disguise, allowing emerging players to rise to the occasion.
