Super Eagles stars clashed in the Champions League with Victor Boniface getting the final word over his compatriot Samuel Chukwueze
Super Eagles star Victor Boniface won the faceoff against his compatriot Samuel Chukwueze as Bayer Leverkusen earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over AC Milan in the second group game of the Champions League campaign.
Boniface scored the only goal of the game, striking in the second half to condemn AC Milan to their second consecutive European defeat in two games.
Unlike Boniface, Chukwueze suffered a disappointing night, coming off the bench late only to receive a yellow card as his only telling contribution.
How it happened
With Chukwueze starting on the bench for AC Milan yet again, Bayer Leverkusen took the initiative in the opening minutes, and were on the front foot in the early exchanges.
Despite their dominance, Bayer Leverkusen were unable to find the back of the net in the first half, spurning chances to take an early lead.
The sides went into the break level at 0-0 despite Bayer Leverkusen outshooting their visitors 10-1 and coming closest to opening the scoring.
The German side eventually went ahead after only six minutes of the second half as Boniface pounced on a loose ball in the box following Jeremie Frimpong's saved effort to tap into an empty net.
Despite opportunities for both sides, Boniface's goal was the decider for Bayer Leverkusen, who claimed a hard-fought win over AC Milan in their second game of the European campaign.
