Atalanta's Ademola Lookman and on-loan Galatasaray star Osimhen are the only African footballers who made the IFFHS Men's World Best Players 2024 shortlist.

Super Eagles duo Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen have continued to reap the rewards of their impressive showings for club and country.

Both Nigerian players have been shortlisted by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) for the Men's World Best Player Award 2024.

Ademola Lookman, the frontrunner for the 2024 African Footballer of the Year, had a standout season for Atalanta, leading them to a historic UEFA Europa League title, bagging a hattrick in the final against the impressive Bayer Leverkusen.

Lookman and Osimhen shine bright like a million star

The 27-year-old forward scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions last season to help Gian Piero Gasperini’s side end a 60-year wait for a first major trophy.

Lookman was also instrumental in the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s run to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), losing 1-2 to host Ivory Coast in the final.

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen had a stellar campaign with Napoli in the 22/23 season, scoring 26 goals to lead I Partenopei to a first league title in over three decades. His historic achievement saw him crowned the African Player of the Year.

Osimhen became the sole pursuit of many top European clubs like Chelsea and PSG, but after signing a new contract with Napoli, his deadline move to Stamford Bridge collapsed.

The 25-year-old Nigerian is currently on loan at Galatasaray where he has become a fan favourite, forming a deadly partnership with Mauro Icardi.
