Xabi Alonso has equalled a Bundesliga record that has stood for over three decades.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has equalled a 33-year-old Bundesliga record after his side was held to a goalless draw by Wolfsburg on Saturday.

The draw marked Alonso's 27th consecutive away match without a loss, with 20 wins and seven draws, matching Udo Lattek's record set in 1990.

The result also saw Leverkusen's gap with league leaders Bayern Munich grow to eight points, after the reigning champions thrashed Werder Bremen 3-0 on Friday.

Despite losing only one match this season, Leverkusen's seven draws have hindered their title bid.

Alonso's side will have the opportunity to reduce the gap with Bayern next weekend when they host Vincent Kompany's men in an important Bundesliga fixture on February 15.

The match promises to be an exciting encounter, with Leverkusen seeking to close the gap and Bayern looking to maintain their lead.

Leverkusen's draw against Wolfsburg marked a rare occasion where the team failed to score, highlighting the importance of converting chances into goals.

With the title race heating up, Alonso will be looking to inspire his team to victory against Bayern and keep their championship hopes alive.
