Okumu has been nursing a groin injury he picked up in April.
Stade Reims interim coach Samba Diawara has provided positive feedback on the injury status of Joseph Okumu, who has been nursing a groin injury since April.
Reims have felt the full effect of missing the stalwart Kenyan defender as their form has taken a nosedive, which left the club with no choice but to relieve Will Still of his duties as coach.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Diawara outlined the current injury situation within the squad, noting that both Okumu and Valentin Antagana are still undergoing rehabilitation.
"We still have Joseph Okumu and Valentin Antagana who are still in rehab," Diawara stated. He further mentioned the status of Mohamed Daramy, expressing disappointment that the player would not be available for the upcoming match due to ongoing pain and the need for further tests.
However, there is some optimism regarding Okumu's recovery. Diawara indicated that Okumu's situation is "a little fairer," raising hopes for his potential return to action.
Regarding Antagana, the focus is on ensuring his fitness for participation in the under-19 Euros, highlighting the club's commitment to his rehabilitation.
Okumu's injury woes have been a recurring issue since joining Stade Reims from KAA Gent. He previously missed international fixtures for Kenya due to hamstring and adductor injuries in November and February, respectively.
