Stade Reims have provided a positive update on Joseph Okumu’s fitness after the Harambee Stars defender was forced to miss their 1-1 draw against high-flying Paris Saint-Germain last week.

According to French publication L’Équipe, Okumu is set to return for Reims' Ligue 1 fixture against Nantes on Sunday (5:15 p.m.), having recovered from his injury.

However, the Champagne club will be without midfielder Teddy Teuma, who is nursing a calf injury, and striker Oumar Diakité, who is serving a suspension.

Reims' coaching staff confirmed, "the return of Joseph Okumu," marking a significant boost for the team.

The Kenyan international had been sidelined after sustaining an injury during the final training session ahead of their crucial clash with PSG. His absence was felt as Reims had to navigate the fixture without their defensive stalwart.

The 27-year-old has struggled with persistent adductor issues, restricting him to just 10 league appearances this season.

Despite these setbacks, he has managed to clock 806 minutes across all competitions and remains determined to regain full fitness. His return comes at a crucial time for Reims, who are aiming for a strong finish in Ligue 1.

Okumu’s recovery is also a significant boost for Harambee Stars, with the national team closely monitoring his progress ahead of upcoming international fixtures.

His presence will be vital as Kenya prepares for key matches in their bid for World Cup qualification, with the side set to face The Gambia and Gabon in March in Group F of the CAF qualifying campaign.
