Guardiola is pulling all the stops to overturn City’s miserable form ahead of the New Year.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola isn’t taking any chances this festive season.
The Spaniard currently under-pressure over City’s dreadful run of form, has ordered his struggling squad to spend Christmas night at the Etihad Campus ahead of their crucial Boxing Day clash with Everton.
The move comes after City’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Aston Villa last weekend.
The defeat stretched their miserable run to just one win in their last 12 matches across all competitions.
Speaking to the media, Guardiola confirmed the unusual decision, saying as per The Sun:
"We train today, we train tomorrow night, and we will stay over here."
Despite allowing players to enjoy Christmas morning with their families, the tactician ensured the evening would be strictly business.
"Hopefully, they want to be here because it’s our job," he added, hinting at the urgency to rediscover their once impeccable form.
Man City brace up for Everton showdown
Guardiola’s Cityzens have been arguably the Premier League's poorest performers since November, securing just four points in two months.
The reigning champions currently languish in seventh place, a staggering 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Facing 15th-placed Everton on Boxing Day at home seems like an ideal chance to steady the ship.
The Toffees held second-placed Chelsea to a goalless draw last week in the Premier League after putting up a solid defensive masterclass.
But with morale at an all-time low, it remains to be seen if Guardiola’s festive lockdown will kickstart the much-needed turn around to their underwhelming season.
