The African giants will have their hands full when they take on five-time world champions Brazil on Saturday.

Five-time world champions Brazil have sent a warning to the Flying Eagles of Nigeria after they beat the Dominican Republic 6-0 in their U-20 World Cup clash at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas on Wednesday evening.

Brazil started their campaign with a disappointing 3-2 loss to Italy in their Group D clash but bounced back with a comprehensive 6-0 over the Dominican Republic, who lost 2-1 to Nigeria in their opening match.

Brazil thrash Dominican Republic to set up Nigeria clash

Savio put the young Selecao ahead in the 37th minute before Marcos Leonardo extended Brazil’s lead a minute later.

Jean Henrique Carneiro Pedroso made it three in the 57th minute before late goals from Giovane, Marlon Gomes and Matheus Martins completed a rout for Brazil.

The win puts the five-time world champions in second and sends a warning to Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, who they face in their final group game.

Nigeria seeking top spot

Ladan Bosso’s men are already through to the round of 16 after a stunning 2-0 win over Italy in their second group game, having beaten the Dominican Republic in their first match.

However, the Flying Eagles will be eager to finish top of their group and need to avoid defeat against the second-most successful team in the history of the competition.

Brazil can also finish top if they beat the Flying Eagles, although it will come down to goal difference if Italy beat the Dominican Republic, as expected.

Nonetheless, the Flying Eagles are assured of a place in the round of 16 irrespective of what happens in their final game.

Nigeria’s game against Brazil is on Saturday, May 27, with kick-off set for 7 pm Nigerian time.
