Otieno conceded defeat as the second round of the presidential election was going on, rendering the result a formality, and it now means Hussein Mohammed will be the new FKF President.

Hussein Mohammed has been elected the new president of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following a dramatic turn of events that saw his rivals, Doris Petra and Barry Otieno, withdraw from the race before the second round of voting.

Mohammed, alongside his running mate McDonald Mariga, secured an overwhelming majority, winning all the votes in the decisive round, cementing their mandate to lead Kenyan football into a new era.

The initial round of voting, held at the Kasarani Stadium, ended with Mohammed leading the pack with 42 votes, while Doris Petra and Nick Mwendwa garnered 31 votes, and Barry Otieno and Lucy Kageni finished third with 10 votes. The other candidates trailed with minimal support:

Cleophas Shimanyula & Twaha Mbarak had won 4 votes, Sammy Owino Kempes had clinched two votes, while Tom Alila had gathered one vote.

With no candidate achieving the 50% +1 threshold required for an outright win, a re-run was set to take place.

In a surprising move, Doris Petra, who was seeking to become FKF’s first female president, conceded the race, followed shortly by Barry Otieno, who had finished third. Their decisions effectively cleared the path for Mohammed to take the reins unchallenged in the second round.

Hussein Mohammed's campaign, centered on transparency, accountability, and grassroots development, resonated strongly with delegates. His running mate, former football star McDonald Mariga, added credibility and a connection to the football community, further strengthening their appeal.

With his resounding victory, Mohammed now takes on the monumental task of steering FKF towards a brighter future. His administration is expected to focus on restoring trust, improving infrastructure, and enhancing player development at all levels.

The election of Hussein Mohammed marks the dawn of a new chapter for Kenyan football. As the new "sheriff" at Kandanda House, Mohammed’s leadership will be closely watched as he works to implement his vision and fulfill the promises that secured him this historic win.
