The club vice-captain claims they are now in best shape
Ulinzi Stars assistant captain Brian Birgen has admitted the club failed to meet set mid-season targets from the start of the campaign.
The four-time Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) champions had hoped to end the first leg of the league among the top five sides, but it was not the case.
The Soldiers lie in seventh position with 28 points, just nine points behind table leaders Gor Mahia. Despite that, Birgen says they are partly satisfied as the campaign takes a short break.
“The first leg has been okay despite not reaching our target. We wanted to be among the top five positions but we are in position seven. So I can say we have not met our target, but we are still in a good position.
The coach came late during pre-season so it took time for us to understand how he wanted us to play,” said Brigen.
The right-back also disclosed that he had yet to meet the personal targets that he set at the start of the season.
"Personally, I had set my target at the start of the season. I wanted to have five assists by mid-season but I only have one,” he added.
Ulinzi Stars finished in a disappointing 12th position last season and are expected to sign several top-quality players during the mid-season transfer window to enable them to realize their dream.
Ulinzi Stars are among the teams with the meanest defense in the league and are expected to better their performance in the second leg performance.
