Manchester United 1-3 Brighton: Welbeck leads charge as woeful Red Devils suffer Old Trafford humiliation
Manchester United lost 3-1 to a rampant Brighton side at Old Trafford to continue their woeful start to the season.
Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for De Zerbi’s side in the 20th minute; Pascal Gross made it two in the 53rd minute; and Joao Pedro fired in the third in the 71st minute. Hannibal Mejbri pulled one back in the 73rd minute, but it was merely a consolation goal.
What De Zerbi said
Speaking after the game, the Italian boss went into detail about their set-up and how they played to get the win.
"I don't know the problems of Manchester United, but I can explain my team," he said, per the BBC.
"We are used to working in our style. We are playing with courage. We defended at Old Trafford man-to-man all the time. We kept the ball in every situation. We played the centre-back with the full-back and two in central midfield. We are building our season in this way."
"Football is nice because the small team can win in every moment. But while I think Brighton is not becoming a big, big team, [winning here] is not a surprise - the quality of the Brighton players is very high."
