In what will be a first of two meetings within four days, Brighton will host Liverpool at the Amex on Wednesday in an EFL Cup tie. Here are predictions, team news, betting tips, and possible line-ups for the game.

Current holders of the trophy, Liverpool kicked off their EFL Cup defence with a convincing 5-1 victory over fellow Premier League side West Ham.

Arne Slot’s side have started the season better than most expected, giving the change of managers, as they are currently second in the Premier League and have all three games played in the UEFA Champions League.

The Reds salvaged a 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday to maintain their bright start to the season.

Meanwhile, Brighton will head into this clash after conceding a late goal to draw 2-2 against Wolves over the weekend.

Coincidentally, Fabian Hurzeler's team reached the stage of the EFL Cup by edging Wolves 3-2 in the last round.

Brighton vs Liverpool Head to Head

Brighton have avoided defeat in each of their last three home matches against Liverpool,  including a 2-1 FA Cup victory in January 2023.

However, the Reds won the most recent defeat between both sides, picking up a 2-1 at Anfield last season.

Liverpool will be without Harvey Elliott (foot), Alisson Becker (hamstring) and Diogo Jota (abdominal), while Federico Chiesa (fitness) and Conor Bradley (unspecified) are both doubtful.

Given that it is a cup game, Wataru Endo and Jarell Quansah could get a place in the starting lineup.

Brighton will be without several key players for their upcoming match. Georginio Rutter is cup-tied, while Joao Pedro remains sidelined with an ankle injury.

Additionally, Solly March (knee), Yankuba Minteh (muscle), Matt O'Riley (ankle), Adam Webster (thigh), and James Milner (thigh) are all out due to injuries.

The Seagulls are also uncertain about the availability of captain Lewis Dunk, who suffered a calf injury during the warm-up on Saturday. Jack Hinshelwood is another doubt due to a minor issue.
