Former Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry includes Brighton speedstar Yankubah Minteh in his final 24-man squad for their assignment against Ivory Coast and Kenya's Harambee Stars.

The Gambia national team is gearing up for a crucial set of fixtures in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign, with head coach Johnathan McKinstry unveiling a strong final 24-man squad on Thursday.

Among the key names included in the squad are Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh and Al Taawoun forward Musa Barrow, both of whom are expected to play vital roles in the Scorpions' attack.

With Gambia struggling in Group F after losses to Burundi and Gabon, McKinstry's side faces a do-or-die situation in the March international window.

The Scorpions must secure maximum points from their encounters with Kenya and Ivory Coast to have any realistic chance of reviving their World Cup dreams. Anything less than six points could prove fatal to their qualification hopes.

Gambia currently sits in a precarious position in Group F, trailing behind the leading pack. The challenge ahead is steep, as they will face group leaders Ivory Coast on March 24 in Abidjan.

Before that, they will 'host' Kenya in the same city four days earlier due to the lack of a CAF-approved home stadium.

McKinstry, who knows Kenyan football quite well from his time managing Gor Mahia,  has stacked his attack with firepower, selecting in-form Turkish-based striker Ali Sowe, who has netted 14 goals in 26 appearances for Rizespor this season.

The midfield is also loaded with European-based talents, including Abubakar Barry (Austria Vienna), Ebou Adams (Derby County), and 20-year-old rising star Mahmudu Bajo (Dunajská Streda).

At the back, captain Omar Colley will provide leadership despite struggling for game time at Greek side PAOK. His experience will be crucial for a defense that has conceded nine goals in four matches, with only Seychelles having a worse defensive record in the group.

With their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread, McKinstry’s men will need to deliver two flawless performances to keep their qualification aspirations alive. The attacking duo of Minteh and Barrow will be under the spotlight, as Gambia looks to turn their fortunes around in Abidjan.
