Italy's legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has placed two Serie A goalkeepers in the top five active number ones at the moment
Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon has heaped praise on two of Serie A’s leading goalkeepers, placing them among his favourite goalkeepers at the moment.
Buffon admires Onana and Maignan
The Italian goalkeeper, who is still playing actively in Serie B with Parma despite turning 45 in January this year, is considered one of the best goalkeepers of his generation and has identified some of the best among the current crop of goalkeepers.

Buffon, who won the 2006 World Cup with Italy along with 10 Serie A titles with Juventus, is considered an expert on goalkeeping matters, and he has said he recognises two of the Italian top flight’s most consistent goalkeepers to be among the best in the world.
The two goalkeepers who earned Buffon’s admiration are Inter’s Cameroonian number one, Andre Onana, and AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, who incidentally faced off in the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
Buffon praises Milan duo Maignan and Onana
Speaking about the AC Milan goalkeeper, Buffon said, “Maignan proved clearly last season what he was capable of, so it is not remotely surprising this term to see him make such remarkable saves with Milan.”
The Italian legend also praised Inter’s goalkeeper, who helped his team reach the final of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 13 years, saying, “As for Onana, he made it obvious from the start that his shoulders are broad enough to handle the Inter jersey. Fighting for position with Samir Handanovic is also a tough slog.
Buffon wrapped up his commendation of the goalkeepers by saying, “I think right now both Maignan and Onana are among the five best goalkeepers in the world.”
Both Maignan and Onana have drawn plaudits for their performances this season, and while Buffon may have been kind with his placement of the Mlan duo in his top five, both goalkeepers are certainly among the best around.
