CAFCC: Rivers United stunned in Uyo as Tanzania's Young Africans win first leg
The second leg of the quarterfinal tie will take place at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Sunday, April 30.
Rivers United aiming to overturn 2-0 deficit
Ahead of Sunday's crunch clash, the Pride of Rivers took to the training in the East African country for the first time.
The first leg played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, a week ago saw the Nigerian side fall to a 2-0 home defeat following second-half goals from Fiston Kalala Mayele in the space of seven minutes.
In a bid to make the semifinal of the competition, Rivers United will have to score three goals without conceding, as the away goals rule is still considered in CAF competitions.
Eguma blames injuries for first-leg defeat
Rivers United head coach Stanley Eguma had blamed injuries for the defeat, adding that they would take lessons from the Uyo loss.
“I will say it was a bad day for us. We didn’t get our acts right. We had some scoring chances in the first half but we couldn’t convert until the opponents scored in the second half and they came out to play. They equally got the second from a counter.
“I believe we have learnt our lessons and some of our key players that were missing would have made some difference for us,” Eguma said after the game.
Sunday's encounter will take place at the Benjamin Nkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam, with the winner matching up against either Egypt's Pyramid or South Africa’s Gallants FC in the semi-final.
