FOOTBALL CAF Confederation Cup: KCCA Player Ratings as they beat Abu Salim

Allan Damba 11:09 - 01.10.2023

On the bittersweet evening for the KCCA faithful, here is how the players rated on the evening.

KCCA FC managed a narrow 3-2 victory over Abu Salim in the second leg of the preliminary round at the St Mary's Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.

However, the win was not quite enough for the Kasasiro Boys to sail through to the group stages, having lost 3-1 in the first leg in Tunisia.

On the bittersweet evening for the KCCA faithful, here is how the players rated on the evening.

Juma Mutebi (Goalkeeper) - 06

It was not a bad debut outing for what you would term a third-choice goalkeeper. He was good, both with his hands and feet and could not do an awful lot for the two goals conceded.

James Mubezi (Defence) - 06

It was a decent debut on such a big stage until he was harshly sentenced for a foul that led to the penalty for Abu Salim's first goal.

Peter Magambo (Defence) - 05

The captain of the evening was both solid and exemplary in the first half, but the second was not inspiring. His manned backline was sliced through too quickly for the second goal.

Aires Emilson Gonzaga (Defence) - 05

He completed the three-person defence. He passed the ball from the back into the midfield well, but he was not stout and beaten easily, especially in the defensive duels.

Herbert Achai (Left wing-back) - 06

Herbert Achai was decent on the evening

It was not the best game for Achai, but he acquitted himself decently in a more advanced role on the left—a couple of dangerous crosses, including the one that resulted in Muhammad Shaban's goal.

Etienne Katenga (right wing-back) - 07

He was one of the best players on the evening, even when he was tasked with a lot of tracking. He was a dangerous presence all evening and played a hand in the final two goals for KCCA.

Eufranio Carlos Da Cungulo (Midfield) - 06

A brilliant first-half display from the heart of the midfield from Gui with short and long-range passing. Fazed in the second wasn't as sleek. Later on, he exposed Abu Salim's goals.

Moses Waiswa (Midfield) - 06

He rarely misplaced a pass on the evening. He had incredible forward passing, but his day was ruined with a lack of heart and grit defensively as Abu Salim netted the second goal.

Gabriel Joao Estevez Cardoso (Attacker) - 05

They had a couple of neat passes but didn't have the right energy needed for the team to give a proper fight. Fazed with minutes and got hooked off early in the second half.

Abubakar Mayanja (Forward) - 07

Mayanja was a complete menace to the backline all evening

The young forward yet again reminded the world of what a talent he is. It was a great display operating majorly from the left, and forced Abu Salim's goalkeeper Moaad Amer Al Ageli into two superb saves.

Muhammad Shaban (Forward) - 07

He was ruthless, especially off the ball, and dealt with the time-wasting antics of Abu Salim well. He reacted like the poacher he is to net KCCA's opener.

Substitutions

Usama Arafat (Forward) - 09

He came on for Gabriel and nearly led KCCA to the promised land. Two well-taken headers to beat Ageli. Man of the Match.

Hassan Mubiru - N/A

Ashraf Mugume - N/A
