CAF Women's Champions League: Edo Queens sign NWFL highest goal scorer

Edo Queens will kick off their campaign in WAFU B champions League qualifiers on Sunday, August 11 in Abidjan.

The Nigeria Women Football League champions, Edo Queens have strengthened their squad ahead of the West Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Cote D’Ivoire.

The Benin City-based side acquired the services of three key players to boost their chances of qualifying for the continental championship.

"We are delighted to announce the signing of Folashade Ijamilusi. She was the top scorer in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season and we believe she will be a valuable addition to our team," Edo Queens coach Moses Aduku said.

Ijamilusi, who joined from FC Robo Queens, will be looking to replicate her goal-scoring form for her new club.

Another notable signing is Bayelsa Queens goalkeeper, Monle Oyono. “Oyono is a proven goalkeeper and her experience will be crucial for us,” Aduku added.

To further strengthen the squad, Edo Queens have also secured the services of Vera Samuel from Delta Queens.

The club has undergone a significant overhaul since winning its maiden league title, with a total of 14 new players joining the team.

"We have been working hard in preparation for the WAFU-B Qualifiers. The team has been in intensive training for a month in Uzairue and we are confident of our chances," Aduku stated.

Edo Queens have been drawn in Group B alongside Hasaacas Ladies (Ghana), Omnisports Etincelle (Burkina Faso), and AS Garde Nationale (Niger Republic).

They will kick off their campaign on Sunday, August 11, against Omnisports Etincelle.

They will then face Hasaacas Ladies on August 14 before concluding their group stage matches against AS Garde Nationale on August 17.
