CAFCC: Rivers United's stars make 'passionate plea' ahead of ‘Nigerian affair’ vs Young Africans

Rivers United lost the first leg in Nigeria but have promised not to disappoint Nigerians a second time against Young Africans in the CAFCC.

Rivers United superstars Nyima and Onoja have called on Nigerians to support the NPFL champions ahead of the decider against Young Africans in the CAFCC.

The duo made the plea as the Pride of Rivers have a mountain to climb following a disappointing defeat in Nigeria during their quarterfinal first leg tie last week.

Young Africans came to the Nest of Champions in Uyo to thrash United 2-0 to put the Nigerians on the brink of elimination.

United are already in Tanzania where they will take to the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Sunday hoping to turn things around.

With the odds staked against them in the decisive quarterfinal second leg tie, United will have to dig deep for this one if they are to keep alive the quest to lift the title.

Speaking first on the game, enigmatic forward, Nyima was the first urge for more support with the former Kano Pillars man noting that the game against Young Africans has become a Nigerian affair.

“You have always been with us,” Nyima said. “We urge you to keep supporting us and pray for us.”

“Our mission to Tanzania is not to go let Nigerians down,” he added. “Right now, it is not a Rivers United affair anymore but a Nigerian one. So, we pray that we are able to satisfy your work - being with us all this while and give you what you deserve.”

On his part, talented midfielder Onoja reflected on the first leg disappointment before urging for more support to help the Pride bring back the smiles.

“We know how long that they (fans) have been waiting for this, for us to come this far. But it was disappointing that our last outing was not what they expected.”

“But we urge them to keep supporting us, we need their support and hopefully, at the end of the day we will put smiles on their faces,” he concluded.
